Make a Difference in the Justice System
Join thousands of volunteers across England and Wales who monitor the treatment of people in custody
Who We Are
We are Independent Monitoring Boards (IMBs) and Lay Observers - ordinary people from all walks of life doing extraordinary work. We provide independent oversight to ensure people in custody are treated fairly, humanely, and with dignity. IMB members monitor prisons and immigration detention centres, checking on daily conditions and speaking directly with prisoners and detainees.
Lay Observers monitor court custody suites and transportation between prison and court, ensuring people's welfare during this vulnerable time.
